Libraries & Cloning Service

The LAC/JGL Libraries & Cloning service offers two main platform technologies, DNA library construction and custom vector production. The rapid growth of genomics has resulted in a demand for specialized DNA libraries. Long term storage and management creates a drain on research funds. With the help of state-of-the-art robotics, LAC aims to assist research groups in the following areas:

· Acquiring libraries as resources.
· Library construction.
· Gridding.
· Screening.
· Arraying.
· Fingerprinting
· Clone management and distribution.

The second part of the service will be based on Invitrogen’s GATEWAYTM technology for cloning by recombination. A series of destination vectors will be available to facilitate a range of procedures including
  • Protein expression
  • Promoter analysis
  • dsRNA PTGS
  • N and C-terminal reporter fusions
  • Mis-expression
Libraries of cDNAs, GSTs and promoters in GatewayTM entry vectors will support the destination vectors. GatewayTM technology offers the versatility, speed and high throughput capability required for rapid library & vector construction.
